The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced its most substantial upgrade to World ID, dubbed 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure. This advanced system targets consumers, enterprises, and AI agents, focusing on authentication, payments, and internet services amidst growing concerns over bots and deepfakes. Altman is also known for his involvement in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The World system utilizes custom 'Orb' devices for proof-of-humanity, scanning faces and irises to generate unique cryptographic codes. Images are deleted post-processing, with only anonymized code fragments sent across a distributed network for verification. The upgrade features a redesigned architecture prioritizing privacy, security, and usability, including account-based identity and multi-key support. A dedicated World ID app is introduced, allowing users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is integrating its identity layer across consumer platforms, including partnerships with Tinder, Zoom, and Docusign, aiming to combat scalper bots and verify meeting participants.
