Wall Street Demands More Than Just Promises of Secure Crypto Exchanges
The cryptocurrency market has seen significant growth, with exchanges now handling billions of dollars in transactions daily. Despite this, security remains a major concern, with over $3 billion in crypto assets stolen in 2025. The largest hacks occurred at well-funded global exchanges, indicating that a lack of resources was not the primary issue. Instead, security is often treated as a marketing tool rather than a priority. Exchanges focus on appearances, such as dashboards and public statements, rather than actual risk management. This approach, known as 'security theater,' prioritizes optics over substance. When stress hits, this fragility can have severe consequences for users. To build trust, exchanges must prioritize genuine security, including proof-of-reserves, transparency, strict internal rules, and quick incident response. By 2026, investors will no longer accept superficial security measures, and exchanges must demonstrate their commitment to security to attract and retain customers.
