Bitcoin Bull Case Strengthened by Nearly $1 Billion in ETF Inflows Amid DeFi Concerns
The market landscape continues to favor a bullish outlook for bitcoin, currently trading at $76,269.02, despite recent developments in Iran and DeFi hacks making headlines. U.S.-listed spot ETFs saw an influx of $663 million on Friday, marking the largest intake since January 15, with total inflows reaching $996 million for the week, up from $786 million the previous week, according to SoSoValue. This significant increase underscores robust institutional interest in the cryptocurrency. For a substantial price surge to occur, it is crucial that this trend persists. Timothy Misir, head of research at BRN, noted that sustained ETF inflows signal structural demand, whereas intermittent flows indicate tactical positioning, emphasizing the importance of consistency over magnitude. Following a high above $78,000 on Friday, bitcoin is currently trading just above $75,000, with prices remaining relatively stable over the past 24 hours, a pattern also observed in other major tokens such as ether, XRP, and Solana. The AAVE token of DeFi platform Aave has dropped 1% to $90, following the weekend hack of KelpDAO, with the DeFi dominance rate remaining steady at around 3%. Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, attributes the pressure on the leading cryptocurrency to negative reactions in stock markets to news about Iran, which has reduced risk appetite, causing BTC to lag behind equities. The U.S. attack and seizure of an Iranian cargo ship attempting to bypass restrictions has further contributed to this sentiment. Traders are actively building short positions, betting against a breakout, which could potentially fuel a 'short squeeze' if prices remain steady, forcing traders to cover bearish bets and possibly driving spot prices higher. A notable trend is the weekly price swings in Solana, with the $95.16 level standing out as a key point of interest. Having remained below this level for 11 consecutive weeks after dropping below it in early February, SOL's failure to reclaim this level points to sustained bearish sentiment and potential for further losses, with the next major support level at $50. A strong move above this level, backed by increased trading volumes, is necessary to invalidate the bearish outlook.
