New Income-Generating ETFs May Stabilize Bitcoin's Price
Bitcoin enthusiasts who profit from the cryptocurrency's $75,842.39 price fluctuations may face disappointment as major banks plan to launch new products designed to reduce market volatility. Recently, Goldman Sachs applied for a Bitcoin Premium Income exchange-traded fund (ETF) that sells options tied to bitcoin-linked products to generate income while providing exposure to the cryptocurrency. BlackRock is also developing a similar product. Selling options is equivalent to selling insurance against price swings, with the seller collecting a premium in exchange for providing protection while being exposed to potential losses. If approved, these ETFs may employ covered options strategies to generate yield, resulting in calmer market conditions. The sale of options in large quantities leads to market makers taking long positions, which they then dynamically hedge by buying the underlying asset on declines and selling on rallies, thereby restraining volatility. The availability of yield-generating products may also divert capital away from speculative investments, further reducing volatility over time. Bitcoin's implied volatility has been declining for three years due to the increasing popularity of options-selling strategies. Currently, bitcoin has pulled back to $74,000 after reaching highs near $76,000 on Tuesday, with the CoinDesk 20 Index dropping over 1% in 24 hours. A significant breakout is expected if US stock indexes reach new record highs. According to Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, bitcoin may remain indecisive until key US stock indices hit new highs, but its stagnation could indicate a fragile risk appetite that will soon affect the broader market. Meanwhile, the IMF has warned about rising global debt, strengthening the case for bitcoin. Bitcoin is currently struggling to rise past its 100-day simple moving average, a widely watched technical level, raising questions about whether history will repeat itself or if the level will finally give way, paving the way for faster gains to $80,000 and higher.
