Avalanche is expanding its reach beyond finance into space, with a new network designed to verify telescope data in real-time. SkyMapper's Avalanche-based network, SkyMapper L1, collects and securely records data from a wide range of global telescopes and sensors, creating a 'Proof of Space Observation' (POSO) that verifies the authenticity and integrity of space data. The SETI Institute is contributing live observational data, marking a significant integration of institutional science into a blockchain-based verification system. The system addresses the growing issue of data explosion from satellites, drones, and space missions by utilizing blockchain to create a permanent and tamper-resistant record of observations.
This is achieved through real-time validation, cryptographic signing, and decentralized storage, ensuring the data's authenticity and allowing for independent verification. The network leverages smart contracts to organize and control access to the data, enabling both private and public sharing of information. As a result, each observation can be independently verified, providing a secure and reliable source of space data for scientists, businesses, and government agencies.
