Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that could propel the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act forward in the U.S. Senate.
In a CoinDesk TV interview, Witt expressed optimism that the bipartisan agreement on stablecoin yield would endure, paving the way for resolving other outstanding issues. Key senators had previously reached common ground on this matter, and Witt believes this compromise will hold.
The Clarity Act had faced several potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Witt noted that significant progress has been made in addressing these issues, with some already resolved.
A markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee is required before the Clarity Act can proceed to a final Senate vote. The White House economists recently issued a report downplaying the threats posed by stablecoin yield, which was met with a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt acknowledged that bankers have varying views on the matter, depending on their proximity to the technology.
