On Friday, World, a digital identity project backed by Sam Altman, announced its most substantial upgrade to World ID, positioning it as a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul, revealed at a San Francisco event, comes as the tech industry grapples with the rising concerns of bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online. World's system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, requiring users to visit an Orb in person for face and iris scanning to generate a unique cryptographic code. The update introduces a redesigned architecture focusing on enhanced privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. Alongside the protocol update, World announced integrations with consumer platforms like Tinder and Zoom, as well as the introduction of a dedicated World ID app for seamless credential management and authentication across platforms.
