Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that could facilitate the advancement of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground reached by key senators from both parties regarding stablecoin yield would endure. He noted that resolving this issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters, some of which have already been resolved.
The Clarity Act had faced several potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Witt declined to specify which topics have been settled but acknowledged that significant progress has been made in the background.
He expressed confidence that the remaining issues can be resolved, given the progress made so far. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. White House economists recently issued a report downplaying the threats posed by stablecoin yield, which was met with a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt observed that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology.
