The White House's primary crypto advisor, Patrick Witt, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify a compromise that will facilitate the advancement of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview, Witt expressed optimism that a mutually agreed-upon solution on stablecoin yield, reached by key senators from both parties, will remain intact. Witt, who is set to speak at CoinDesk's Consensus Miami conference, noted that resolving this issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters.
The Clarity Act has faced several potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the DeFi space and a request from Democrats to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Although Witt did not disclose which topics have been resolved in ongoing negotiations, he acknowledged that significant progress has been made behind the scenes. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report from White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association.
Witt believes that the views of bankers on this issue vary widely, depending on their proximity to the technology.
