Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify a compromise that could propel the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act forward in the U.S. Senate.
In a recent interview, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground achieved by key senators from both parties on stablecoin yield will endure. He noted that resolving this issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters, some of which have already been resolved. The Clarity Act had faced several potential hurdles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector.
Witt reported that significant progress has been made in negotiations, with many issues that once seemed insurmountable now nearing resolution. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report from White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association.
Witt acknowledged that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology.
