Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that could propel the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act forward in the U.S. Senate.
In a recent interview, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground achieved on stablecoin yield will endure, allowing the bill to move forward. He acknowledged that several other issues are being addressed behind the scenes, including the protection of financial interests in the decentralized finance space and a proposal to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Witt noted that considerable progress has been made in resolving these issues, and he expressed confidence that the remaining hurdles can be overcome.
The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report from White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt observed that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology.
