The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will continue to assert its exclusive regulatory authority over prediction markets, according to Chairman Mike Selig. In an interview with CoinDesk, Selig emphasized that the agency's oversight applies to all valid products offered within CFTC-regulated exchanges, regardless of the underlying event. The CFTC's position is supported by a recent Third Circuit Court ruling, which reinforces the agency's authority over commodity derivatives markets.

Selig noted that the agency's lawsuits against Arizona, Illinois, and Connecticut aim to establish the CFTC's exclusive regulatory authority in this area. The CFTC is currently engaged in a major litigation effort to clarify its oversight of prediction markets and is reviewing comments on its interpretative guidance with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
