The World project, backed by Sam Altman, has introduced a major upgrade to its World ID system, positioning it as a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for individuals, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, scanning users' faces and irises to generate a unique cryptographic code. The update features a redesigned architecture focusing on improved privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding its partnerships with consumer platforms like Tinder and Zoom, as well as exploring enterprise use cases with Docusign, to embed its identity layer and combat scalper bots and deepfakes.
