This feat demonstrates the effectiveness of its hybrid model, which differs from traditional mining pools. The winning miner receives 1 BTC, while the remaining 2.125 BTC, along with fees, is distributed among all participants based on their shares. This approach has no parallel in mainstream mining and is designed to benefit home miners. The pool's hashrate currently stands at 52 petahashes per second, and its proportional distribution mechanics have been validated twice. The pool operates without fees, and payouts are made through the Lightning Network. By securing Bitcoin through a cryptographic puzzle, miners compete to add the next block of transactions to the blockchain and earn a reward. The reward is currently 3.125 BTC, plus transaction fees, worth approximately $238,000 at Friday's price. The mining landscape is dominated by industrial operators, but Parasite aims to cater to home miners. The pool's founder, ZK Shark, also created the Ordinal Maxi Biz NFT collection on Bitcoin. Pure solo pools, like CKpool, pay the full block reward minus a fee to the finder, but most participants never see a block. Parasite's approach splits the difference, preserving the lottery payday while keeping satoshis flowing to participants between blocks. The second block mined by Parasite carries more significance than the first, as it demonstrates the pool's ability to retain hashrate and validate its distribution mechanics. With a current hashrate of 52 petahashes per second, Parasite accounts for roughly 0.005% of Bitcoin's estimated network hashrate. The success of solo and small-pool mining has been notable, with a home miner beating 1-in-28,000 odds to claim a $210,000 reward and another operator renting cloud hashrate to validate a block via CKpool for a $200,000 payday. Parasite is the first pool at this scale to test a hybrid split, and a third block within the next two months would solidify its model, while a six-month drought would suggest the first two blocks were the easy ones.
