Bitcoin's Price Drops Below $74,000 After Failing to Break Through Key Resistance Level

In Thursday's US morning trading session, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) plummeted by 2% in a matter of minutes, falling to approximately $73,500, after once again failing to breach the stiff resistance level. This decline occurred after bitcoin had briefly surpassed the $75,000 mark, only to be met with resistance. Over the past 24 hours, the largest cryptocurrency has experienced a decline of over 1%. The downturn in bitcoin's price was accompanied by a pause in the remarkable stock market rally, which had driven the Nasdaq and S&P 500 to record highs the previous day. Both indices were down by around 0.1% just over an hour into the session. Stocks linked to the crypto sector also experienced a downturn, with Coinbase (COIN), Strategy (MSTR), Robinhood (HOOD), and Circle (CRCL) all declining by roughly 2-3% in morning trading. In contrast, crude oil prices rose by approximately 2%, regaining the $90 level, as ongoing geopolitical tensions continued to fuel supply concerns. The $75,000 to $76,000 price range is crucial for bitcoin, as it represents the level at which the cryptocurrency was trading prior to the market crash on February 5, which sent its price tumbling to $60,000. A successful breach of this level could potentially trigger a larger price movement, driving bitcoin's price back towards the $90,000 mark at which it started the year. Notably, the correlation between bitcoin and software stocks, which had been moving in tandem prior to the conflict in the Middle East at the end of February, has begun to reestablish itself. Although bitcoin had been outperforming the software ETF (IGV) in recent weeks, the latter has caught up over the past five days, rising by as much as 11%, while bitcoin has remained relatively flat. This development suggests that rather than a clean decoupling, software stocks may have simply been lagging behind bitcoin and are now rebounding. On Thursday, IGV was up by 1%, while bitcoin was down by 1.5%.
