Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify a compromise that could facilitate the progression of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act through the US Senate. In a recent interview with CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground achieved by key senators from both parties regarding stablecoin yield would remain intact. "We are hopeful that the compromise reached will be durable and hold," Witt said, adding that resolving this issue was a prerequisite for addressing other outstanding matters. While Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been resolved in the ongoing negotiations, he mentioned that significant progress has been made in the background, away from the public eye.
The Clarity Act, which aims to provide clarity on the regulatory framework for digital assets, still needs to undergo a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can be put to a final vote. Despite the recent report from White House economists downplaying the risks associated with stablecoin yield, the American Bankers Association has raised concerns, and Witt acknowledged that the banking sector has diverse views on the issue, ranging from positivity to threat. "They are grappling with it," he said, emphasizing that these issues are crucial to their members, with some viewing stablecoins more favorably than others.
