The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced a major upgrade to its World ID system, aiming to provide a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul is in response to growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices for in-person identity verification, generating a unique cryptographic code through facial and iris scanning. The update focuses on improving privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. Additionally, World is introducing a dedicated app for managing credentials and authentication, alongside integrations with various consumer and enterprise platforms, including Tinder, Zoom, and Docusign, to combat issues like scalper bots and deepfakes.
