Bitcoin Drops Below $74,000 as Upsurge to New Heights Fails Again

The price of Bitcoin, which is currently at $77,098.22, experienced a rapid decline of 2% in a matter of minutes during Thursday's US morning trade, after failing to break through the increasingly stubborn resistance level. The largest cryptocurrency plummeted to approximately $73,500 during the US morning session, marking a decline of over 1% in the past 24 hours. This downturn occurred after the cryptocurrency was once again rebuffed following its rise above $75,000. The stock market, which had been experiencing a remarkable rally that sent the Nasdaq and S&P 500 to record highs the previous day, also took a pause. About an hour into the session, both indices were down by roughly 0.1%. Additionally, stocks linked to the crypto market also declined across the board, with Coinbase (COIN), Strategy (MSTR), Robinhood (HOOD), and Circle (CRCL) all experiencing losses of approximately 2%-3% during morning trading. Meanwhile, crude oil prices surged about 2%, reclaiming the $90 level, as ongoing geopolitical tensions continued to fuel supply concerns. The $75,000-$76,000 range is crucial for bitcoin, as it was the level at which the cryptocurrency was trading prior to the market crash on February 5 that sent BTC plummeting to $60,000. A successful push past this level could potentially trigger a larger move, bringing prices back to around the $90,000 mark at which bitcoin started the year. In other news, the correlation between bitcoin and software stocks, which had been moving in tandem prior to the conflict in the Middle East at the end of February, has been disrupted. While bitcoin has been outperforming the software ETF (IGV) since the conflict began, with gains of over 11% compared to IGV's 2%, the latter has been catching up over the past five days, with a rise of as much as 11%. This suggests that rather than a complete decoupling, software stocks may have simply been lagging behind bitcoin and are now rebounding. On Thursday, IGV was up 1%, while bitcoin was down 1.5%.
