The Crypto Clarity Act, aimed at establishing regulations for the US crypto market, has a 30% chance of passing this year, says Ron Hammond, Wintermute's head of policy. Hammond cites the complex and uneven legislative process as a major obstacle, despite some progress being made in Washington. The bill's passage is seen as crucial for institutional adoption of crypto, as it would provide clear guidelines on the regulation of digital assets.

However, Hammond notes that traditional financial institutions, particularly banks, remain a significant hurdle due to their opposition to certain aspects of the bill, such as the issue of stablecoins offering yield. The ongoing negotiations have been challenging, with a proposed 'yield deal' recently failing to satisfy either side.

Hammond believes that the bill still has a viable path forward, but progress will depend on breakthroughs in committee and continued negotiations. The outcome of the Clarity Act is particularly important for Wintermute, which is expanding its US operations and growing its New York team, and sees a more favorable regulatory environment in the US.
