The drive to enhance privacy on public blockchains has now extended to Bitcoin, with VerifiedX launching a new privacy-focused layer designed to protect transactions while ensuring auditability remains intact. VerifiedX's Prism system allows for encrypted account balances, shielded addresses, and selective information disclosure, enabling users to conduct private transactions while still being able to demonstrate compliance when necessary, as outlined in an announcement shared with CoinDesk on Thursday. This development aligns with a broader industry trend. Recently, the XRP Ledger introduced zero-knowledge proof capabilities specifically targeting institutional users seeking to maintain data confidentiality on public ledgers. This highlights a key obstacle to institutional adoption: the transparency inherent to public blockchains. While this openness fosters trust, it also exposes sensitive information such as account balances, transaction counterparties, and flow of transactions – something institutions typically avoid in traditional finance. Given Bitcoin's stature as the largest digital asset, improvements to its functionality, particularly in terms of privacy and usability, have the potential to impact the entire sector more significantly than similar updates on smaller networks. VerifiedX is integrating this privacy model directly into Bitcoin, rather than creating a separate privacy-focused blockchain. This allows assets to seamlessly move between transparent and shielded states, with 'viewing keys' providing controlled access for auditors or regulatory bodies.
