According to Patrick Witt, the White House's primary crypto adviser, efforts are ongoing to solidify the compromise that will propel the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act forward in the U.S. Senate.
Witt, who is also the executive director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, expressed optimism that the common ground achieved on stablecoin yield will remain intact. In a recent interview, Witt stated, 'We're hopeful that the compromise reached will be durable and hold.' He emphasized that resolving the yield issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters, some of which have already been resolved. The Clarity Act has faced several potential hurdles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. While Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he noted that negotiations have made significant progress in the background.
He expressed confidence that the remaining issues can be resolved, saying, 'We're very close to closing them out.' The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt acknowledged that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology, and stated, 'They're grappling with it. These are all important issues to their members.'
