High-Speed Trading Technology from Wall Street Enters Crypto with DoubleZero's Solana Data Platform
DoubleZero Foundation has introduced a novel platform, DoubleZero Edge, aimed at accelerating the dissemination of crypto market data to trading firms, signaling a growing need for advanced, Wall Street-inspired systems in digital asset markets. The project, launched on Thursday, initially offers a real-time data feed from the Solana blockchain, thereby granting traders expedited access to information that can impact prices. By collaborating with validators, DoubleZero Edge taps into Solana's high-speed blockchain, which generates vast amounts of real-time data as transactions are processed, and distributes it more swiftly to market participants. Unlike traditional finance, which relies on specialized networks for rapid data delivery, crypto markets currently depend on the public internet, leading to potential delays and inconsistencies. DoubleZero Edge seeks to address this by establishing a dedicated system tailored for on-chain data, capable of reducing data delivery times by tens of milliseconds, with more substantial gains during periods of intense network activity. This can provide high-frequency trading firms with a competitive edge, as even minor speed enhancements can be significant. The platform operates by transmitting data via a private fiber network utilizing multicast, a method commonly employed in traditional financial markets to simultaneously distribute data to multiple participants. Additionally, DoubleZero Edge proposes a novel economic model, where Solana network validators can earn supplemental revenue by providing data to the platform, while traders subscribe to the feeds using USDC. The launch occurs as crypto trading firms increasingly seek dependable and predictable infrastructure, particularly as competition escalates and profit margins shrink. DoubleZero Edge's system aims to level the playing field by minimizing uncertainty in market data dissemination. According to Andrew McConnell, a DoubleZero co-founder, 'Traditional finance has invested decades in developing infrastructure where speed and deterministic performance are significant competitive advantages. On-chain markets lacked this foundation, leaving even sophisticated trading firms at a disadvantage. Deterministic infrastructure eliminates a risk that market makers must factor in, resulting in tighter spreads and improved execution.'
