Investigation Underway into Death of Influencer in Zanzibar, Crypto Fund Manager's Fiancée
An investigation is ongoing in Zanzibar regarding the death of Ashly Robinson, a U.S. influencer and fiancée of Joe McCann, founder of the crypto investment firm Asymmetric. Robinson, 31, was found unresponsive in a private villa at the luxury resort Zuri Zanzibar, where the couple was celebrating her birthday and recent engagement. Despite initial reports confirming her death as a suicide, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, citing a prior argument between the couple. Hotel staff reported that the couple had been involved in a heated dispute, which led to them being separated and sent to different rooms. McCann, with an estimated net worth of $45 million, has been questioned by the police and has been asked to remain in the country while the authorities await the results of Robinson's autopsy. The hotel has expressed its condolences and is cooperating fully with the local authorities and the U.S. Embassy. Robinson's family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for travel costs and other expenses, expressing doubts about the official cause of her death. McCann, a prominent figure in institutional crypto, had announced the shutdown of Asymmetric's Liquid Alpha Fund in December, following claims of significant financial losses. The U.S. State Department has offered its condolences to the Robinson family, while the Tanzanian police have not responded to requests for further information.
