According to Patrick Witt, the White House's primary crypto adviser, efforts are underway to finalize a compromise that could propel the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act forward in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview, Witt expressed optimism that the consensus reached on stablecoin yield will endure, allowing the focus to shift to other outstanding issues. The Clarity Act has faced several potential roadblocks, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the DeFi space and a proposal to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector.
Witt noted that progress has been made in addressing these issues, with some already resolved. He expressed confidence that the remaining issues can be overcome, given the progress made so far. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote.
A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt acknowledged that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology, with some viewing them more positively than others.
