This move is aimed at enabling financial institutions to execute private transactions on the public blockchain while adhering to regulatory requirements. A significant barrier to institutional adoption has been the lack of privacy on public blockchains, where transaction flows, treasury positions, and counterparty relationships are visible by default.

Zero-knowledge proofs resolve this issue by allowing one party to verify the validity of a statement without revealing the underlying data. On the XRP Ledger, this means that a payment can be verified as valid, funded, and compliant without exposing sensitive information to the public ledger. The XRP Ledger already has a significant presence among institutions, with users such as SBI Holdings, Zand Bank, Archax, and Guggenheim Treasury Services.

The integration with Boundless provides these institutional users with a path to privacy that was previously unavailable. The timing of this integration is notable, given the current discussion around blockchain cryptography and the potential threat of quantum computing to traditional cryptographic systems.
