Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify the compromise that will facilitate the progression of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the US Senate. In a recent interview, Witt expressed optimism that the mutually agreed upon stablecoin yield will endure, allowing for the resolution of other outstanding issues. The compromise in question has been a crucial step forward, as it addresses concerns raised by bankers regarding the potential impact on their deposit base. Besides the stablecoin yield issue, the Clarity Act has faced other potential obstacles, including the protection against illicit financial activities in the decentralized finance space and a proposal to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector.
Although Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he acknowledged that significant progress has been made in the background negotiations. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote.
A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt noted that the views of bankers on stablecoins vary widely, depending on their proximity to the technology, with some viewing them more positively and others feeling more threatened.
