The US Department of the Treasury has announced that it will be extending its cybersecurity information sharing program to include cryptocurrency businesses, in a bid to enhance the security of the growing digital asset industry. Eligible crypto companies will be able to receive timely and actionable cybersecurity information, enabling them to better protect themselves against cyber threats. This move follows a recommendation from the President's Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, which emphasized the importance of information sharing in mitigating cyber-attack risks. The decision aims to promote a more secure and responsible digital asset ecosystem, according to Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Luke Pettit.

The cryptocurrency sector has long been vulnerable to malicious hacks, with billions of dollars' worth of assets being stolen each year. Recent incidents, including a $280 million heist from decentralized platform Drift, have highlighted the need for enhanced security measures. By providing crypto firms with access to high-quality cybersecurity information, the Treasury hopes to support the development of a more robust and secure digital asset industry.
