Wall Street Demands More Than Just 'Trust Us' When It Comes to Crypto Security

The cryptocurrency market has grown significantly, with daily trading volumes reaching $190-192 billion. However, the security of crypto exchanges remains a major concern, with over $3 billion in assets stolen in 2025. The largest hacks occurred at major exchanges with ample resources, indicating that the issue is not a lack of funding, but rather a lack of effective security measures. Many exchanges focus on creating a convincing image of security, with dashboards, reserve snapshots, and public statements, but this 'security theater' does not provide actual protection. True security requires a disciplined approach, with enforced rules and controls, transparency, and quick incident response. Exchanges must demonstrate their ability to withstand stress and prove their security through verifiable methods, such as proof-of-reserves and independent audits. They must also implement strict rules, such as separating duties and requiring approvals for large transfers. In today's market, a simple 'trust us' statement is no longer enough; exchanges must provide evidence of their security controls and incident response plans to attract and retain customers. By prioritizing actual security over 'security theater,' exchanges can build trust and mitigate the risk of devastating hacks.
