According to Patrick Witt, the White House's primary crypto adviser, efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that will facilitate the progression of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate. Witt, who serves as the executive director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, stated in a CoinDesk TV interview that progress has been made on several key issues, although some challenges persist.
The recent agreement on stablecoin yield, which was a major point of contention, appears to be intact. Witt expressed optimism that this compromise will endure, allowing the focus to shift to other outstanding issues.
The Clarity Act has faced numerous potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial activities in the decentralized finance space and a proposal to prohibit senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. While Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been resolved, he noted that considerable progress has been made in the background.
The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report from White House economists downplayed the risks associated with stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt acknowledged that the banking sector holds diverse views on stablecoins, with some institutions viewing them more positively than others.
