Alchemy, a leading cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, has introduced AgentPay, a groundbreaking tool designed to facilitate collaboration among various AI payment systems from prominent companies such as Coinbase, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, and Circle. This innovation addresses the pressing issue of agentic payment systems currently being developed, which lack interoperability, resulting in merchants having to establish separate integrations for each protocol. According to Alchemy CTO Guillaume Poncin, 'This approach is unsustainable and will only lead to further fragmentation as more systems emerge.' AgentPay offers a solution by allowing merchants to register their existing API, which is then provided with a new endpoint, enabling any agent on a supported protocol to make payments through it.
As a major player in the Web3 space, often referred to as the 'AWS of Web3,' Alchemy provides essential infrastructure, developer tools, and node services for building blockchain applications. AgentPay promises to simplify the process by offering a single integration for multiple protocols, including x402, MPP, A2P, and L402, acting as a translation layer where instructions are routed without Alchemy directly handling funds.
The emergence of agentic finance, anticipated to become a cornerstone of online payments, involves micro-transactions and nano-payments between AI agents, often with human oversight. Following a private beta launch, Alchemy is gearing up for a general release in the coming weeks.
