In a move to bolster the security of the growing cryptocurrency industry, the US Department of the Treasury has announced that it will begin sharing timely cybersecurity information with eligible crypto businesses. This decision aims to equip these companies with the necessary tools to protect themselves against an increasing number of cyber threats. The Treasury's Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection will provide crypto firms with access to the same high-quality, actionable cybersecurity information that traditional financial institutions receive.

This initiative follows a recommendation from the President's Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, which emphasized the importance of information sharing in mitigating cyber-attack risks. According to Luke Pettit, Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions, this move will help promote a more secure digital asset ecosystem.

The cryptocurrency sector has long been vulnerable to malicious hacks, with significant funds and data being stolen regularly. Recent incidents, including a $280 million theft from the decentralized platform Drift, highlight the need for enhanced security measures. By extending access to critical cybersecurity information, the Treasury hopes to support the development of a more responsible and secure digital asset industry, addressing concerns that have been raised by US lawmakers as they consider legislation to regulate the crypto sector.
