Patrick Witt, the White House's primary crypto adviser, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify a compromise that will facilitate the progression of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview on CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground achieved by key senators from both parties regarding stablecoin yield will endure. He noted that resolving this issue was essential before addressing other outstanding matters, which he is now focusing on.
Witt mentioned that several other points are being worked out behind the scenes, including protections against illicit financial activities in the decentralized finance space and a request from Democrats to prevent senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Although Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he acknowledged that considerable progress has been made in the background. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report from White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association.
Witt observed that bankers have varying views on the issue, depending on their proximity to the technology.
