Alchemy, a leading provider of cryptocurrency infrastructure, has launched AgentPay, a innovative solution that facilitates the integration of various AI-powered payment systems from prominent companies such as Coinbase, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, and Circle. This new tool tackles the pressing issue of agentic payment systems currently being developed, which are not designed to communicate with each other. As a result, merchants seeking to cater to AI agents as customers are forced to establish separate integrations for each protocol, a process that is both inefficient and unsustainable.
According to Alchemy's CTO, Guillaume Poncin, 'AgentPay resolves this issue by allowing merchants to register their existing API with us, and we provide them with a new endpoint that enables any agent on a supported protocol to make payments through it.' Alchemy is widely regarded as the 'AWS of Web3' due to its provision of essential infrastructure, developer tools, and node services for building blockchain applications. AgentPay promises to simplify the integration process by providing a single endpoint for multiple protocols, including x402, MPP, A2P, and L402. By acting as a translation layer, AgentPay routes instructions without directly handling funds, as stated by Poncin.
The emergence of agentic finance, which is expected to play a pivotal role in internet payments, often involves micro-transactions or nano-payments between AI agents, with humans potentially involved in the background. Alchemy has initiated a private beta launch, with plans for a general release in the coming weeks.
