Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Mike Selig has reiterated the agency's commitment to defending its sole regulatory authority over prediction markets. In an interview with CoinDesk, Selig emphasized that the CFTC's jurisdiction applies to all validly offered products within a CFTC-regulated exchange, regardless of the underlying event. The agency is currently engaged in lawsuits against several states, including Arizona, Illinois, and Connecticut, to solidify its authority.

Selig pointed to a recent Third Circuit Court ruling as a validation of the CFTC's position. The agency is also undergoing a formal rulemaking process to clarify its oversight of prediction markets and is open to suggestions on the matter. Additionally, the CFTC and SEC have published interpretative guidance on the taxonomy of digital assets, aiming to provide clarity on the distinction between commodities and securities.
