Bitcoin Hits $70,000 as Institutional Investors Show Growing Interest
Francisco Rodrigues reports (all times ET unless stated otherwise) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin at $74,041.62, exhibited mixed performance, briefly touching $70,000 following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious attitude follows the largest bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) inflows since late February, even amidst a challenging macroeconomic environment. The demand from bitcoin ETF investors indicates they view current price fluctuations as a buying opportunity. Research by Binance earlier this month revealed that the correlation between bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, tracking 41 central banks, turned negative after the launch of spot bitcoin ETFs. Institutional flows driven by ETFs tend to be forward-looking, preparing for anticipated policy changes. This suggests institutional capital may be accumulating in anticipation of a potential easing of monetary policy. Bitfinex Alpha described the market as range-bound but fragile, characterized by weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning that becomes more unstable below $68,000 as protection against downside risks increases. Macro pressures also remain significant, with Brent crude prices above $110 a barrel due to the looming deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Iran for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz, keeping investors on edge. Given the expected rise in inflation due to higher energy costs, the market sees little room for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in the near future. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial. Stay informed! For further analysis of today's altcoin and derivatives activity, see Crypto Markets Today.
