Bitcoin Temporarily Reaches $70,000 Amid Signs of Institutional Investment via ETFs

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless specified) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin at $73,936.17, exhibited mixed trends. This followed a brief touch of $70,000 for Bitcoin, influenced by reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious market stance comes after a significant influx of investments into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) was recorded, the largest since late February. Despite a challenging macroeconomic backdrop, investors seem to view current price fluctuations as an opportunity to accumulate Bitcoin. Research by Binance earlier this month indicated a strong negative correlation between Bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, which monitors 41 central banks, after the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs. Institutional investors, through ETFs, tend to anticipate future policy changes, suggesting they may be preparing for an expected easing of monetary policies. Bitfinex Alpha characterized the market as confined within a range but fragile, with diminished organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning that becomes increasingly unstable below $68,000 as protective measures against downside risks grow. The looming macroeconomic pressures remain significant. With Brent crude oil prices remaining above $110 per barrel due to the impending deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for a deal with Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, investors remain on high alert. Given the anticipated rise in inflation due to higher energy costs, the market expects little room for the Federal Reserve to reduce interest rates in the near term. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial to watch. Read more: For an analysis of today's altcoin and derivatives activity, see Crypto Markets Today.
