In a bid to bolster the cryptocurrency industry's defenses against cyber threats, the US Department of the Treasury has announced that it will begin sharing critical cybersecurity information with eligible crypto firms. This move aims to provide crypto businesses with the same level of protection as traditional financial institutions, thereby promoting a more secure digital asset ecosystem. According to a recent statement, the Treasury's Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection will offer crypto companies access to timely and actionable cybersecurity information, free of charge.
This development comes in response to a recommendation from the President's Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, which emphasized the importance of information-sharing in mitigating cyber-attack risks. The decision is particularly significant given the cryptocurrency sector's history of vulnerability to malicious hacks, with billions of dollars in assets being stolen annually.
By extending its cybersecurity information-sharing program to the crypto sector, the Treasury hopes to foster a more secure and responsible digital asset environment.
