Alchemy, a leading provider of cryptocurrency infrastructure, has introduced AgentPay, a revolutionary tool designed to facilitate communication between various AI payment systems, including those developed by prominent companies such as Coinbase, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, and Circle. This innovation addresses the long-standing problem of incompatibility among these systems, which has hindered their ability to work together seamlessly.
According to Alchemy's CTO, Guillaume Poncin, the lack of interoperability between these systems is unsustainable, particularly as more systems are launched. AgentPay resolves this issue by enabling merchants to register their existing API with Alchemy, which then provides a new endpoint, allowing agents on any supported protocol to make payments through it. As a key player in the Web3 space, Alchemy is often referred to as the 'AWS of Web3' due to its provision of essential infrastructure, developer tools, and node services for building blockchain applications.
AgentPay promises to simplify the integration process for merchants, supporting multiple protocols such as x402, MPP, A2P, and L402, while acting as a translation layer that routes instructions without touching funds. The emergence of agentic finance, which is expected to play a significant role in online payments, involves micro-transactions and nano-payments between AI agents and humans. Alchemy has initiated a private beta launch of AgentPay, with plans for a general release in the coming weeks.
