Bitcoin Surpasses $70,000 as Institutional Investors Show Growing Interest via ETF Inflows
By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless otherwise stated) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin (BTC) at $74,089.05, displayed mixed signals. A proposed ceasefire in Iran briefly pushed Bitcoin's price to $70,000. This cautious market behavior follows the largest influx of funds into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) since late February. Despite a challenging macroeconomic environment, investors in Bitcoin ETFs seem to view current price fluctuations as a buying opportunity. Research by Binance earlier this month indicated that after the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs, the correlation between Bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, which monitors 41 central banks, became strongly negative. Institutional investors, who tend to be forward-looking, may be accumulating Bitcoin in anticipation of potential monetary policy easing. Bitfinex Alpha characterized the market as range-bound but vulnerable, with weak demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning that becomes increasingly unstable below $68,000 as protective measures grow. The ongoing macroeconomic pressure, with Brent crude oil prices remaining above $110 per barrel due to the looming deadline for a deal related to the Strait of Hormuz, continues to affect investor sentiment. The market expects little room for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates soon, given the anticipated rise in inflation driven by higher energy costs. Upcoming U.S. inflation data will be crucial to watch. For further analysis of today's altcoin and derivatives market activity, see Crypto Markets Today.
