Bitcoin Temporarily Reaches $70,000 Amid Signs of Institutional Investment via ETFs
By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless stated otherwise) On Tuesday, the crypto market, led by Bitcoin (BTC) at $74,179.33, displayed mixed trends, with Bitcoin briefly hitting $70,000 following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious approach comes after bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw their largest inflows since late February, indicating institutional interest despite the market's close watch on the challenging macroeconomic landscape. The demand from Bitcoin ETF investors suggests they view the current price movements as a buying opportunity. Earlier this month, Binance Research found that Bitcoin's correlation with its Global Easing Breadth Index, which tracks 41 central banks, turned strongly negative after the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs. This indicates that institutional flows driven by ETFs tend to be forward-looking, positioning themselves in anticipation of future policy moves. Institutional capital may be accumulating in anticipation of an expected easing of monetary policy. Bitfinex Alpha characterized the market as range-bound but fragile, with weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury buying, and options positioning that becomes more unstable below $68,000 as protection against downside increases. Macro pressures remain significant. With Brent crude remaining above $110 a barrel, the looming deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Iran for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz keeps investors on edge. The market currently sees little room for the Federal Reserve to lower rates in the near future, given the expected rise in inflation caused by higher energy costs. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial. Stay alert!
