The Securities and Exchange Commission is on the verge of introducing a 'regulation crypto' that will outline its approach to overseeing the cryptocurrency industry, distinguishing between transactions that qualify as securities and those that do not, as stated by SEC Chair Paul Atkins on Monday in Nashville, Tennessee. The proposed regulation, currently under review by the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, is focused on the Securities Act of 1933 and will address fundraising and startup exemptions.
Following his speech at an event co-hosted by Vanderbilt University and the Blockchain Association, Atkins mentioned that the SEC also plans to release its highly anticipated innovation exemption soon, seeking feedback on its effectiveness and potential issues. The exemption aims to promote experimentation without putting established companies at a disadvantage. Atkins emphasized the importance of congressional support, urging the audience to participate in the upcoming election to ensure a favorable regulatory environment.
