Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Mike Selig, emphasized that the agency will continue to assert its 'exclusive regulatory authority' over prediction markets in court. In an interview with CoinDesk, Selig stated, 'Regardless of whether it involves sports, politics, or any other topic, if a product is offered within a CFTC-regulated exchange, it falls under our jurisdiction.' The CFTC is currently engaged in lawsuits against several states, including Arizona, Illinois, and Connecticut, to establish its authority over prediction markets. Selig's comments come after a recent Third Circuit Court ruling that supports the CFTC's oversight of these markets.
The agency is also involved in a formal rulemaking process to clarify its regulatory framework for prediction markets.
