Alchemy, a leading provider of cryptocurrency infrastructure, has introduced AgentPay, a groundbreaking tool that facilitates collaboration between various AI payment systems from prominent companies like Coinbase, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, and Circle. This novel solution addresses the pressing issue of interoperability, where existing agentic payment systems lack the ability to communicate with one another, forcing merchants to establish separate integrations for each protocol. According to Alchemy's CTO, Guillaume Poncin, "This approach is unsustainable and will only become more fragmented as new systems emerge." AgentPay offers a solution by allowing merchants to register their existing API, which is then provided with a new endpoint, enabling any agent on a supported protocol to make payments through it.
As a pioneer in Web3 infrastructure, Alchemy is often referred to as the "AWS of Web3" due to its comprehensive suite of developer tools, node services, and infrastructure necessary for building blockchain applications. AgentPay promises to simplify the process by providing a single integration for multiple protocols, including x402, MPP, A2P, and L402, acting as a translation layer that routes instructions without directly handling funds. The emergence of agentic finance, which is expected to play a vital role in internet payments, often involves micro-transactions or nano-payments between AI agents and humans. Alchemy has initiated a private beta launch, with plans for a general release in the coming weeks.
