A months-long governance dispute within the Aave community has come to an end with the passing of the 'Aave Will Win' proposal, a landmark decision that redirects 100% of revenue from Aave-branded products back to the DAO, effectively consolidating economic rights under the AAVE token. This move signifies a major shift, making the DAO responsible for funding Aave Labs' activities. As part of the proposal, a $25 million stablecoin grant and an allocation of 5,000 AAVE tokens, valued at approximately $6.8 million, have been approved for Aave Labs.

The Aave DAO, a community-run decision-making body, oversees the Aave lending protocol, allowing token holders to vote on key decisions such as upgrades, fees, and treasury use. The 'Aave Will Win' proposal, deemed the most crucial in Aave's history, aims to make Aave fully token-centric, with a focus on a single asset, the AAVE token.

The proposal resolves a controversy that emerged in December when it was discovered that swap fees had been quietly redirected away from the community treasury. This move decisively favors token holders, ensuring that protocol revenue, which reached $140 million in 2025 and is expected to match that in 2026, is supplemented by application-layer revenue from various Aave products.

The application layer, where significant ambition is placed, will see Aave App targeting mainstream users with a 'fintech-like experience', including $1 million account protection per user and a card that generates fees for the treasury. The proposal also addresses 'value leakage' by requiring service providers to build exclusively for Aave, with measurable goals and reduced governance friction.

Technically, Aave V4's reinvestment feature is set to turn idle capital into yield-generating positions, while new 'Spokes' will expand collateral options. With roughly $25 billion in total value locked across multiple chains, Aave is poised as the largest lending protocol in DeFi, with annual revenue of $140 million, alongside Uniswap and Lido.

The future target is to scale from $40 billion to $1 trillion, positioning Aave as a comprehensive financial network.
