Bitcoin Hits $70,000 as Institutional Investors Show Growing Interest via ETF Inflows
By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless otherwise stated) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin at $74,780.92, displayed mixed trends. Notably, Bitcoin briefly reached the $70,000 mark following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious market stance comes after Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced their largest inflows since late February. Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, these inflows suggest that investors view the current price fluctuations as a buying opportunity. Research by Binance earlier this month revealed that the correlation between Bitcoin and the Global Easing Breadth Index, which monitors 41 central banks, turned significantly negative after the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs. Institutional flows driven by ETFs tend to anticipate future policy decisions, indicating that institutional investors may be accumulating Bitcoin in anticipation of an easing in monetary policy. According to Bitfinex Alpha, the market is currently range-bound but fragile, characterized by weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and unstable options positioning below $68,000, with increasing downside protection. The ongoing macroeconomic pressure is also a factor, with Brent crude oil prices remaining above $110 per barrel due to the looming deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Iran for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz, keeping investors on high alert. Given the expected rise in inflation due to higher energy costs, the market sees little room for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in the near future. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial. Stay informed! For more insights into today's altcoin and derivatives activity, visit Crypto Markets Today.
