Alchemy, a leading cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, has introduced a groundbreaking tool called AgentPay, designed to facilitate seamless interactions between various AI payment systems from prominent companies such as Coinbase, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, and Circle. This novel solution addresses the pressing issue of agentic payment systems currently being developed, which lack the ability to communicate with one another. As a result, merchants seeking to cater to AI agents as customers are forced to establish separate integrations for each protocol, a process that is unsustainable and prone to increasing fragmentation as more systems emerge. According to Alchemy CTO Guillaume Poncin, "AgentPay resolves this issue by allowing merchants to register their existing API with us, and we provide them with a new endpoint that enables any agent on any supported protocol to make payments through it." As a pioneer in the Web3 space, Alchemy is often regarded as the 'AWS of Web3' due to its comprehensive infrastructure, developer tools, and node services that empower the creation of blockchain applications.
AgentPay promises to simplify the integration process by providing a single integration point for multiple protocols, including x402, MPP, A2P, and L402. By positioning itself as a translation layer, AgentPay routes instructions while ensuring that Alchemy never directly handles funds, as explained by Poncin. The emergence of agentic finance, anticipated to become a cornerstone of online payment activity, often involves micro-transactions or nano-payments between AI agents, with humans playing a background role.
Alchemy has initiated a private beta soft launch, with plans for a general release in the coming weeks.
