Bitcoin Hits $70,000 Amid Rising Institutional Interest in ETFs
By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless stated otherwise) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market displayed mixed trends, with Bitcoin (BTC) briefly reaching $70,000 following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This development comes a day after Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw their largest inflows since late February, indicating that investors view the current market conditions as a buying opportunity, despite the challenging macroeconomic environment. According to a recent study by Binance Research, the correlation between Bitcoin and the Global Easing Breadth Index, which tracks 41 central banks, turned strongly negative after the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs. This suggests that institutional investors are positioning themselves for anticipated policy changes, with ETF-driven flows often being forward-looking. Bitfinex Alpha has described the market as range-bound but fragile, with weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury buying, and unstable options positioning below $68,000, as investors increase their downside protection. Macroeconomic pressures remain a concern, with Brent crude prices above $110 per barrel, as the looming deadline for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz, imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, keeps investors on edge. The market expects little room for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates in the near future, given the anticipated rise in inflation due to higher energy costs. The upcoming U.S. inflation data will be crucial. Stay informed! Read more: For an analysis of today's altcoin and derivatives activity, see Crypto Markets Today.
