Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser at the White House, has stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that could facilitate the advancement of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the US Senate. In a recent interview with CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground achieved by key senators from both parties regarding stablecoin yield will endure. He noted that resolving this issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters, some of which have already been resolved. The Clarity Act has faced several potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial activities in the decentralized finance space and a proposal to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector.
While Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he mentioned that significant progress has been made in the background. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association.
Witt acknowledged that bankers have diverse views on the issue, depending on their proximity to the technology.
