Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that will facilitate the advancement of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the US Senate. In a recent interview with CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed optimism that the stablecoin yield compromise reached by key senators from both parties will endure. He noted that resolving this issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters, some of which have already been resolved.
The Clarity Act had faced several potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Witt declined to specify which topics have been settled in the ongoing negotiations but acknowledged that significant progress has been made.
The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt observed that bankers hold diverse views on the issue, depending on their proximity to the technology.
