Bitcoin Hits $70,000 as Institutional Investors Show Growing Interest

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless stated otherwise) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin, exhibited mixed trends, with the largest digital currency briefly reaching $70,000 following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious market sentiment comes a day after Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced their largest influx of investments since late February. Despite the challenging macroeconomic landscape, the demand from Bitcoin ETF investors suggests they view the current market conditions as an opportunity to accumulate. Earlier this month, Binance Research discovered that the correlation between Bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, which tracks 41 central banks, turned sharply negative after the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs. Institutional investors, driven by ETFs, tend to focus on expected policy changes, indicating they may be accumulating Bitcoin in anticipation of a potential easing of monetary policy. Bitfinex Alpha characterized the market as range-bound yet fragile, with weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning that becomes increasingly unstable below $68,000 as investors seek downside protection. The macroeconomic pressure remains a significant factor, with Brent crude oil prices staying above $110 per barrel due to the looming deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Iran, keeping investors on high alert. Given the expected rise in inflation caused by higher energy costs, the market currently sees little room for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates in the near future. The upcoming U.S. inflation data, scheduled for release later this week, will be crucial. Remain vigilant!
